Story Submitted By:L. Dill Plans to redevelop downtown Johnstown included the most recent ousting of Gallo's news stand. I am not a frequent visitor downtown but the times I have went through there where people at his corner stand. If you want to stop people from going downtown take away the reason they go Does not make a lot of sense anyway you look at it. Although I can see some of the cities reasoning his life may of been in danger next to the road. But so are the people who are just walking on the sidewalk. I recall a common law clause referred to as "the Grandfather clause" stating that you can make a law but people who practiced it previously where exempt. Why not try that with Gallo's. No more sidewalk shops and after his closes they are all gone. You practice enough double standards anyway. This would not be anything new. You want to revitalize the area you have to make exceptions you have to really want it. The status quo will not work anymore the downtown is dying and without immediate life support it will never make it another decade. As you think and ponder your choices Richland is headway into a new Wal-Mart. You need to stop trying to make yourself look good and beg and grovel to get companies to invest downtown. |
